About Me

Delvin Moody is a national leader, scholar of religion, thinker, and liberationist theologian. He embodies open-mindedness, commitment, goal-orientedness, generosity, hard work, and compassion throughout his life and career. His actions, decisions, and personality continue to inspire countless individuals in his community and beyond.

Early Life and Education

He was born and raised in Utica, NY, where his leadership journey began. His commitment to serving others was nurtured in the church and blossomed into a career dedicated to public service and academia. The seeds of hard work and open-mindedness began to sprout during his educational journey. He earned dual Bachelor's degrees in Religion and Political Science from the University of Rochester, graduating with high honors, a testament to his goal-oriented approach.

Moving forward, Delvin displayed an unwavering spirit, earning a Master of Arts degree with distinction in Religion from Colgate University - only the second African American to achieve this milestone in the institution's 150-year history. Afterward, he pursued a Master of Sacred Theology from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He is currently a Ph.D. Student at Boston University, focusing on Afrocentric religiosity in the Americas.

Career and Achievements

His career path is multifaceted, highlighting several leadership roles spanning various organizations. His open-mindedness is evident in his involvement with diverse groups, such as the NAACP and the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, showcasing his global political perspective. In his steadfast commitment to advancing young black voices, he served previously as the National Chairman of the National Black Action Committee, Northern Vice President of the New York State Young Democrats, and State Treasurer of the Young Democrats of New York State. He was also a part of President Joe Biden's Young Elected Official Coalition during his 2020 presidential Campaign. 

As the youngest African American elected official in NY State and has held a historic role in Utica, NY, Delvin Moody's goal-oriented approach and problem-solving abilities shine through. He also made history as the first International Director of Young Adults for the House of God Church Inc., demonstrating his generous heart and commitment to fostering the next generation.

Authorship and Community Development

As a writer, he has exemplified his hardworking spirit and compassion through his book "The Launching Pad: For People Fueled by Potential." This powerful tool inspires individuals to maximize their potential, embodying his dedication to personal growth and community development.

Delvin's substantial efforts toward his community are also noteworthy. As the Founder and Chairman of the Collective Impact Network, he was pivotal in securing a $40 million investment into Utica's Cornhill community, creating the new Renaissance Community Center. Simultaneously, while in elected office, his leadership led to over $117 Million in investments for his district. To date, he is working on completing another inspirational book, "Rerouting: Navigating Life's Wrong Turn," expected to be released in the summer of 2024.

Hobbies and Interests

Despite his demanding career, he has never lost touch with his fundamental passions – hiking and cooking. Formerly the owner of a BBQ restaurant in Utica, NY, "Empire Smokehouse Deli," he nurtures his creativity, patience, and African-American roots by slow-smoking meats, appreciating how culinary arts bring people together in a warm and welcoming environment.

Philanthropy and Charitable Works

Delvin Moody's generosity extends beyond his words and ideas – he actively supports charitable causes. He was, notably, a 32nd degree Prince Hall Mason. He frequently donates his time and skills to empower youth groups across NY State, enhancing their potential through motivational talks.
